So...what is Manic Haze?

Let's start with the name. Anyone that knows me at all knows that I love the Los Angeles band, theSTART. Well, the name stems from the lyric "...and later sweetness drove my manic haze." Thus, the name was born. I wish I had some great elaborate story, but thats it.

Manic Haze came about in 2002, solely by me, Laurie. I had just started working for my friend Becky's webzine, and figured I could do this on my own! So I did. I began contacting labels, going to a lot more shows, doing interviews, etc. It was awesome. Eventually I branched out into design, which consumed a lot of my time working with such local bands as Third Estate, One Year Nothing, Renouf, Adeline's Hero, December's Halo, Verona / I Dreamer, as well as working with some other clients. It was great, but, after a few years it began to wear on me, so I took a hiatus, focused on working full time and going back to school.

I definitely missed doing all the fun journalistic tasks, and slightly missed doing design, so I started doing small jobs here and there. But, I'd really missed being immersed in the music scene and doing photography on a regular basis. So, here I am.

I've also teamed up with one of my best friends, Kristy, who hosts the WBER Local Show. She will be helping with the local stuff on here as well as interviews and what ever else I throw her way.
