BoySetsFire Interview with Nathan Gray
How's the tour going so far?
it's going well, this is the first day of the tour for the snapcase thing. we
were just out for a week with glassjaw, christiansen & haste. that tour just
ended yesterday and now we're here. and it's going good so far.
Is "Curtain Call" about anyone specific or is it just general?
it's a general thing about how people create an idol and expect them to live up
to all their expectations, and nobody can do that. its just not human. you
either turn into a hero or a villan and there's no in-between. And I just think
it's ridiculous that people can't judge people as well this was real cool that
this person did, they've done other things that maybe I don't think are so cool,
because they're human beings. But we don't all have the same opinions, 'cause
we're human beings and yadda yadda. It seems you either have to be a hero or
villan if you mess up either way, then you change that slot. Like somebody in a
band, who you think is this really cool person, then they go do something you
don't like and they turn into a dick. It's really ridiculous.
What inspires you to write?
Um, it depends. I don't think there's anything I can put my finger on and say
this is what helps. There's no way to say this is it. Sorry it's a lame answer.
*laughs*
*laughs* It's okay. Did you guys plan for the cd to come out the day before
9/11?
No, we did that on purpose. We wanted it to come out the day of. But the labels
have this thing where albums have to come out on a certain day, so that's as
close as they could get it.
What's your favorite song to perform & why?
I like "My Life in the Knife Trade" a lot, which is off the After the Eulogy
album we did. As far as new stuff is concerned, anything. We've had this album
for so fucking long that its nice to have new songs, so we're stoked to do
those.
When should we expect another full length album?
April 1st of 2003. That's it, that's the day. April Fool's day.
Will "Handful of Redemption be on It"?
Yup. But the studio version, not the live version.
Why did you pick "After the Eulogy" & "Rookie" for the EP?
Because they're what gets the most response live. They're good live songs that
everyone can get into.
Do you have any plans after this tour? Will there be another tour?
Yeah, we're on this tour for 6 weeks, then we're off a week, then we go to
Europe for 4 weeks. Then we go to LA to do a video thing. Then we come home and
god only knows what
we're doing after that.
Do You have any last words?
Nope! I'm horrible at that, I can stop you right there! Anytime anyone asks me
that, I think of dumb crap, then I'll read the interview later and be like why
the hell did I say that? *laughs*
